About our Cambridge concrete contractor crew

Fresh concrete driveway beside a yellow-sided home with two white garage doors and caution tape across the surface.

Our story started on a small concrete crew

I started out as a helper on a small concrete crew, setting forms and pushing wheelbarrows until I learned to finish slabs myself. In 2023 I opened M&K Cambridge Concrete Company in Cambridge, and most of the calls we get come from homeowners with a driveway, patio, steps or foundation that needs work.

What that first crew taught me is that the parts you can't see decide how a slab holds up. The grade, the drainage and the joints are buried by the end of the pour, so I'd rather take an extra look than guess. Around Cambridge that often means older houses on tight lots, where a driveway or patio sits close to the foundation and water doesn't have far to go. You can see the work we do on our home page, and before we start I'll walk you through exactly what you're paying for.

What working with us looks like

These are the things you'll notice from the first visit to the last pass of the broom, because they're how we keep a concrete job from going wrong in the first place.

  • The same person from estimate to pour

I come out for every estimate, and I'm on site with our crew while the work gets done. What we talked over in your driveway is what gets built, because nothing gets handed to someone who wasn't there.

  • A quote you can compare line for line

Every estimate lists the work that's included and anything that isn't, so you're not guessing about hauling out the old slab or adding base. That way you can set our quote beside another one and compare the same job.

  • Checks before the concrete goes in

We dig out and pack the subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, and check where the water runs so the slab falls away from your house. If the budget gets tight, we'd rather trim the finish than the base, because a fancy surface won't save a slab that settles.

  • A pour planned around weather and permits

We check what each job needs with the city's building office, and when a permit applies we take it out ourselves as your contractor and keep it posted at the job site. We set the pour day around the weather too, since concrete placed in midday heat can end up with a weak, dusty top.

Licensing and insurance for work on your home

  • Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration

The state requires a contractor working on an existing, owner-occupied home with one to four units to be registered as a Home Improvement Contractor. When the work is estimated at $1,000 or more, you and the contractor need a written contract with the terms the law requires.

  • Fully licensed and insured

We're fully licensed and insured for the concrete work we do on your property. And we keep our promise short. Satisfaction guaranteed.
